Concerts on the Corner

Presbyterians Celebrate 200 Years with Free Community Concert Series.

In 1824 Presbyterians began to worship in Montgomery County and as part of its bicentennial celebration, Wabash Avenue Church is excited to offer five free concerts to the community throughout 2024. The Abel Family Quartet, a chamber group, will kick off the series Friday, February 2, at 7:30 in the church sanctuary at 307 S. Washington. The Abel Family, an Indiana favorite led by Alfred Abel, director of the Wabash College chamber music orchestra, will perform masterworks from Haydn, Ravel, Brahms, and Schubert. A free offering will be given to the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau. Planners of Concerts on the Corner recognize the prominence of the church building in the community as the steeple can be seen from all directions coming into Crawfordsville. The congregation of WAPC notes its responsibility as a historic landmark institution and seeks to “share the love of God through the beauty of music.” As part of its mission to serve others a free will offering will be taken at each event and given to local non-profit organizations. Performances throughout the year include Echoing Air with sacred music from around the world, March 17; internet sensations and recording artists Cameron Cody and James Kelly, singing, playing piano and organ, April 19; African American storytelling and spirituals by The Freetown Village Singers, October 6; and Indiana blues favorite The Tad Robinson Band, Nov. 17.
