Crawfordsville Strawberry Festival: Celebrating Leadership Change with a Gavel Passing

Out with the old, in with the young” –Dave

There may be snow on the ground and unfriendly temperatures in the air, but that didn’t stop the members of the Crawfordsville Strawberry Festival Steering Committee from holding their first of the year meeting to get organized and start the planning process for the many details that go into putting on this very popular local summertime event.

First on the agenda was a “changing of the guard” at the top. Longtime chairperson of the festival, S. David Long, officially turned over the role of chairperson to Jessica McClamroch, who served as co-chairperson in 2025.

In turning over the gavel, Long commented, “I’ve really enjoyed my time as chairperson. We have a very strong group of dedicated, unpaid volunteers who spend a great deal of time and effort to ensure we have the best possible festival. I can’t thank you enough. I especially want to recognize Jessica for stepping up to assume her new role. New leadership brings new ideas. She has already started working on some new plans to keep the festival a top attraction. That being said, it’s been fun, and I’m ‘berry’ happy to be just a committee member again.”

As the meeting resumed, it was learned that 2025 was a success despite the usual weather issues and general increase in prices. It was reported that some fundraising money had been received and new fundraising letters had been sent out. Committee members reported on the status of their various areas.

After reminding everyone that the next meeting would be on March 15th, McClamroch then used her new gavel to close the meeting.
