New sign unveiled to complete Marie Canine Plaza

Crawfordsville Main Street in collaboration with the City of Crawfordsville unveiled a new sign to commemorate the donors who helped contribute to the Marie Canine Plaza’s development. Dozens gathered at the plaza on the corner of Green and Main Street to witness the unveiling, which was complimented with beautiful weather and the activation of the fountain a couple of days prior.

WCDQ’s Dave Long had a chance to talk with the Executive Director of Crawfordsville Main Street Jami Harrington, who was joined with the City of Crawfordsville’s Director of Operations & Community Development Brandy Allen.

According to the Journal Review, the Marie Canine Plaza is built on the site of the former Crawford Hotel, which was in business from 1900 until 1973. The structure was a focal center of the community, where thousands of people stopping by came to rest and socialize. The plaza was installed in 2003 as a centerpiece of Crawfordsville’s historical district. Its prominent fountain was replaced in 2024 following years of decay and disrepair. It has since been named the Crawford Fountain, now adorned with symbols and lettering once displayed on the hotel.
