The Boys and Girls Club of Montgomery County celebrated 70 years of operation Thursday morning with a popper celebration hosted by the Crawfordsville | Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Dozens of current and former staff, board members, and CEOs gathered to celebrate the milestone.
The first club in Montgomery County, which at that point was for boys only, was opened on July 5, 1956, at an old fire station on College Street – where ATCO Rubber Products sits today. A new club was opened on Chestnut St. in 1972, where it was later opened to girls in 1986. It closed in June 2000 when its current location at 1001 Whitlock Ave. opened.
WCDQ had the chance to talk with former CEO Craig Reeves and current CEO Gina Haile after the ceremony concluded. Both interviews can be heard below.
