The Indiana National Guard’s 3rd Battalion, 139th Field Artillery are about to hold their annual gunners reunion for former members and friends in May. According to their press release, the battalion was originally headquartered in the Crawfordsville armory before being phased out several years ago. Other units were located in Darlington, Kempton, Danville, Spencer, Attica, Lafayette, and Rockville.
“Like most reunions, ours is designed to bring together those individuals who served together over the years and give them a chance to renew old friendships and share individual stories”, remarked S. David Long, a retired Sergeant First Class of the organization and reunion coordinator. He had served and worked in the Crawfordsville armory for nearly 40 years. “The 3rd Battalion has a long and proud history in the state of Indiana, and has seen several of its members assume Division and State level leadership positions over the years. Our members were proud to be a part of the communities in which they served.”
This year’s reunion will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Darlington Community Center, which can be found at 105 Franklin St. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. Cost to enter is $20. Reservations need to be made by May 11th. For more info, contact Long by phone at 765-362-4395, or by email at dlong1172@gmail.com. They also encourage to send any contact information about former battalion members.
A catered lunch and golf outing is currently being planned for those interested. Those who wish to golf are encouraged to contact Steve Taylor by phone at 765-491-6677, or by email at staylor7@tds.net.
