Montgomery County United set for Golden Lion Invitational

The Montgomery County United Band and Guard (MCU) are putting the final touches on this season’s show. The presentation, titled: “Shadows & Silk”, will be performed at the 5th annual Golden Lion Invitational on Thursday, July 23, at North Montgomery High School. The competition begins at 8 p.m.

“The concept starts as a dark, almost emotionless feeling on the field,” said Andy Simpkins, who is the current North Montgomery band director and co-director of the MCU. “As we perform our show, it becomes more animated with color and joy. We have a few surprises up our sleeves”.

The MCU is currently comprised of students in the North Montgomery and Southmont districts.

“Our kids have created some wonderful friendships from this,” said Elizabeth Newnum, who is Southmont’s band director and co-director of the MCU. “We have seen some long-lasting bonds formed beyond schools.”
