Purdue Extension to host Master Gardener Training series

The Purdue Extension Office in Montgomery County has opened up registration for its 14-week Master Gardener training series this fall. Its core curriculum will cover plant science, invasive species, woody ornamentals, pest identification, and control methods for weeds, insects and diseases. The Master Gardeners also serve as volunteers who assist with the Seed Library at the Crawfordsville District Public Library; the Summer Garden Club at Nicholson Elementary; and the Pollinator Garden at the Fairgrounds. Graduates will become a trained local horticulture expert.

“The Master Gardeners are a great volunteer group here in our community,” said Tricia Herr, who is an extension educator for the Purdue Extension Office. “They donate thousands of hours worth of time and fresh produce to the community.”

Those interested in enrolling for the series are encouraged to contact Herr by calling 765-364-6363. Each applicant must undergo a background check.

Classes are held every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 at the 4-H Fairgrounds. The series will begin on Sept. 10 and last until Dec. 10.
