Here’s a brief look back in time for this day, May 25.
In 1787, the Constitutional Convention begins convening to discuss reforms in the newly-established democratic government. This was when the checks and balances model began to formulate as a means of ensuring fair and impartial governance between the legislative, judicial, and executive branch. By the end of the convention in September of that year, 38 out of 41 delegates voted to pass the supreme law of the land: the U.S. Constitution.
In 1972, the American sci-fi phenomenon known as Star Wars is premiered in theaters. Long lines formed as thousands packed to see the state-of-the-art practical effects that were used at the time. It has since grown into a raving pop-culture franchise comprised of TV shows, toys, and comic books.
