Here’s a brief look back in time for this day, May 8.
In 1886, the first bottle of Coca-Cola is sold from a pharmacy in Atlanta, GA. The formula was concocted by Dr. John Pemberton, a local pharmacist who sold bottles of the mixture for five cents per bottle. While the Coca-Cola formula is one of the most guarded trade secrets, the first rendition is known to have contained a small amount of cocaine: an addictive drug that was once a popular additive in products like gum and soda in the 1800s.
In 1963, American moviegoers are introduced to James Bond in the series’ debut film Dr. No. The film was adapted from British novelist Ian Fleming’s series of books centered on the beloved pop-culture spy. Multiple actors have carried the honor of performing the character, such as Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore, and Daniel Craig.
